I'm a Magician, can I Sell my tricks on TrickPirates.com? Yes
you can, just register for a Magician's account and start uploading
your videos. All videos will be reviewed by our staff to ensure that
they meet our Quality and Copyright Standards. Once approved, your
videos will be available to the public for download.
What are the Quality and Copyright Standards that my videos must meet? All
TrickPirates.com videos must be ORIGINAL, or at least an original
variation. No you can't just watch a Criss Angel how-to video and
repost a video of yourself performing the trick. Our staff of
professional magicians have seen every trick ever created and if they
spot a copycat trick your account will be suspended permanently. As
far as Quality, magicians will need to upload 2 videos. One Preview video and one solution video. At least 640x480.
What is your Target Market? We have identified 3 distinct targets 35% Beginner Magicians
(13-18y/o) , 50% Beginner/Intermediate Magicians (Single Males 21-35
year old) and 15% Local/Regional Professional Magicians.
- Beginner Magicians (13-18y/o
) - Primarily interested in simple tricks that they can perform
with little to no practice. Card tricks, rope tricks, some coin magic
and simple stage/parlor tricks.
- Beginner/Intermediate Magicians (Single Males 21-35 year old)
- They want tricks that they can perform in the bar using little
to no set-up or gimmicks but some level of skill or practice. Card
tricks, bar tricks, bar bets, street magic and any routine that the can
pick-up women with ie rose napkin....
- Local/regional Professional Magicians - Most of these
will be the other magicians selling on Trick Pirates. They will be
looking for true innovation, something they can't find at there local
magic shop. Both original tricks and original techniques will be what
they are most interested in.
How many tricks would you like from each performer? The more the
better! As we ramp up we need as many great tricks as we can get.
When we launch we will allow our customers to rate the videos and the
best will be featured on top. These ratings will be by category so the
more diverse your tricks the more category's you will be in and thus
the more chances of being one of the top videos in that category.
What format should the videos be in? We accept most video formats including AVI, MPEG, WMV, and MP4. But we prefer MP4.
How will the amount of downloads be tracked? We have a full
service accounting program on the back-end of the website. When the
magician uploads their trick it is linked to their account. The
magician can log into their account and see exactly how many sales each
video has made.
How will we get paid? Payment will be made the 15th of each month
by PayPal Transfer or Bank Check (If by check the minimum payment will
be $20. If fees due are less than $20.00 that amount will be rolled
over to the following month.)
Are the other magicians teaching the effects have clearance, and/or own the rights to be able to teach the effects? This
is a question in which we seek the magic communities input. We do have
magicians on staff so it should not be hard to identify copys of big
commercial magicians effects but for others we are not sure. One idea
we have is allowing the Trick Pirates Community to have a way to report
non original effects. We will still have to set standards on how many
reports constitute removal, what is inspired by and what is stolen,
etc.... This is very important, we do not want to be a spoiler site.
Any input on how to police this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Is there a contract between yourself and the performers in the videos? Yes,
the Trick Pirates License Agreement. This agreement will soon be a
digital part of the magician registration.
The site seems to be going through many changes. Any changes we should look forward to seeing? Official
launch is scheduled for January 1, 2008. We hope to add a local magic
shop directory, complete the public and magicians forum and create a
more robust magicians page that would allow magicians to put pictures
of them self and give a more detailed resume including, if they would
like, contact info for personal instruction or parties. We are also
interested in any suggestions from our magicians to make this a great
site.
